Botox ins-and-outs

Lets start out with the one of the most requested services in the aesthetic industry!

What it is: Botox is the commonly used as a generic term for all neurotoxins, similar to when someone calls and tissue a Kleenex. Kleenex is a brand of tissue, but plenty of people use the name brand as if it is a generic term. Just like there are many types of tissue, there are many types of neurotoxin!

How it works: Neurotoxins (no matter the brand: Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau) work like a dimmer switch to decrease the firing of a muscle.

Why we need it: When the muscle is relaxed by botox, the skin has a fighting chance to resist the muscle resulting in, less lines over time and the softening of existing lines over time.

When to start: Neurotoxins work best to prevent lines. Therefore, starting treatments before the lines have developed is best. This can be as early as your 20's, or as late as your mid-thirties depending on skin thickness and how strong the muscles of your face are.

The best approach: 95% of my patients are treated in all 3 areas of the upper face: between the brows, the forehead, and around the eyes. Full treatment of all 3 areas is very important because these 3 muscle groups pull against one another, and relaxing one group without relaxing the others can result in one group getting really strong over time and making lines worse in that area.

What to expect during treatment: We use the smallest needle possible for injection and the treatment time is about 1-2 minutes with most people feeling about a 1/10 on the pain scale without numbing.

What to do/not to do before and after treatment: Please avoid anything likely to make you bruise like omega fish oils, aspirin, NSAIDS, and alcohol 2 days before and after treatment. For 4 hours after treatment you cannot lay down, massage your face, or move the product. Facial movements are encouraged. No working out until 48 hours after treatment.

How long it lasts: Results typically start to kick in as early as 3 days and are at full effect by 2 weeks. Typical results last 3-4 months, but remember just like the dimmer switch I talked about earlier, it is a dimmer switch style of wearing off, meaning by 2 months you will see some wearing off of the neurotoxin slowly as you get closer to the 3-4 month mark.

How much it costs: Typically prices range from $400-$900 depending on dosing, membership, and any additional areas like the lower face or botox for TMJ.
